Desert Locust Outbreak
A severe outbreak is destroying crops and pastures across the Horn of Africa, which is located in the Eastern region of the continent. The areas affected include: eastern Ethiopia and neighboring areas of Somalia, parts of Sudan, Eritrea and northern Kenya, with a high risk of spreading to northeast Uganda, southeast Sudan and southeast Ethiopia.
According the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), this is the worst outbreak of Desert Locust in 25 years.
The desert locust is not only the most dangerous of the dozens of locust species, but it also presents a huge hazard to the food safety of the affected regions and potentially touched regions.
